GENERAL ENGLISH

On the first morning at Excel as part of the orientation process,  you will sit a placement test. This will help determine your English level and which class you will be studying in.  General English courses all focus on the development of spoken and written English language skills. You will use speaking, listening, reading and writing to build your knowledge of the grammar and vocabulary of English.

Classes are offered at the following levels.

Class levels

It takes approximately 12 weeks to complete each level. Each Friday morning you will have a progress test on what has been taught for the week.

Morning classes work through the course units from either the "New Headway" or "Cutting Edge" syllabus books.
Afternoon classes have a listening and speaking focus using materials specifically designed by the teacher.

Thursday afternoon is 'students choice'. This choice allows the students to study an option that they would like to either spend more time on or one that is new to them and they would like to know more about. Some of the subjects they can choose from include:-

• English for Business
• Social English
• Grammar clinic
• English for Travel and Tourism
• English for the Media
• Exam classes

A normal day follows the following outline.
